By Sybil Morneau The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Portland Oregon is a professional position in the health care industry. The State of Portland offers programs for two levels of CNA. CNA 1 provides standard care and CNA 2 provides acute care. A CNA must achieve level one before taking on level two. The CNA 1 program includes 75 hours of classroom study and 75 hours of clinical training. The CNA 2 program includes 40 hours of classroom and lab work and 24 hours of clinical practice. The Marquis Company The Marquis Company of Portland, Oregon is a health care service provider and provides home care, Alzheimer’s and acute rehabilitation and assisted care facilities. They also offer certified nursing assistant training programs at no cost to individuals who wish to pursue a career with the Marquis Company. Candidates must be at least 17 years of age to apply and qualified candidates will undergo classroom training, clinical practice and on the job supervised training, as mandated by the State of Oregon, at one of the Marquis facilities. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM and clinical work takes place from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The program will prepare the student to sit for the certification program administered by the State Board of Nursing. Certification is required to work as a CNA in the state of Oregon. Pinnacle Health Care Pinnacle Health Care is a network of healthcare facilities privately owned and operated by Pinnacle Healthcare Management. They operate 10 facilities throughout the state of Oregon and provide post acute and long term care and have continued to set the healthcare standard since 1948. Pinnacle Healthcare offers Nursing Assistant training programs for qualified applicants. There is a cost associated with the program, but students who pass the program, receive their certification and accept from employment from a Pinnacle facility will be reimbursed for the cost of the program. The program is designed to meet the requirements for certified nursing assistant 1 in the state of Oregon. Students will undergo 75 hours of classroom instructions and 75 hours of clinical practice under the direction of a registered nurse at a Pinnacle facility. The program will prepare the students to take the state mandated certification exam. Students must hold a high school diploma or GED and must pass a criminal history check, and TB and drug screening must result in negative results. Oregon Medicare and Medicaid Oregon Medicare and Medicaid will reimburse a student for the cost of the Certified Nursing Assistant program if the student accepts employment with a certified Medicare or Medicaid facility or if a student has secured employment from a Medicare or Medicaid facility and certification is dependent on launching employment with that facility. Two schools in Portland, Portland Community College (PCC) and Mount Hood Community College (MHCC) are accredited as a Medicare or Medicaid sponsored CNA programs educational facility. The student must meet all the entrance requirements of the chosen school and successfully pass the CNA program. Students must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or a GED to qualify for the program. PCC offers the CNA 1 and CNA 2 and MHCC offers the CNA 2 program. The CNA 1 programs are 75 hours of classroom training and 75 hours of clinical training in a healthcare facility. The CNA 2 program, which is open to students who have the CNA 1 certification, is 40 hours of classroom training and 24 hours of clinical practice. The CNA 1 programs will prepare students to sit for the state of Oregon certification program. CNA 2 does not require state certification.
