By Sybil Morneau The state of Indiana requires certified nursing assistants to complete a state approved training program that includes a minimum of 30 hours of classroom study ad 75 hours of clinical training. 16 of those clinical hours must be directly supervised by a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse or a physician before the student can take part in the clinical rotation. Upon completion of the training program, graduates will be required to pass a written nurse’s aide competency test and a clinical skills test. Once the exam phase has been completed successfully, the students name will be added to the nursing registry and they are eligible for employment. CNA’s are required to work a minimum of 8 hours every two years at a certified healthcare facility in order to retain nurse’s aid certification. Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing and Rehabilitative Center Miller’s offers tuition reimbursement to employees who successfully complete the certified nursing assistant training program. Employees requesting tuition reimbursement for such a program must attend a program accredited by the state nursing board. The program must include class work and clinical training for the purpose of assisting patient care. Employees must meet the entrance requirements of the school and complete the program with a grade of C+ or better. Employees must also provide all requested application information including documentation of physical fitness, drug and alcohol testing, fingerprint card, current picture for a school identification badge and citizen status, if required. Employees who attend classes during the normal work week will receive a small living stipend for the duration of the program. Upon successful completion, employees will be required to pass the state mandated licensing exam within three months.
