A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for patient care in a healthcare facility and work under the direction of a Registered Nurse or a Doctor. The duties may vary depending on the type of health care facility, but generally a CNA will help a patient dress, bathe, perform toileting and assist with eating. The CNA has daily contact with patients and report their conditions or problems to the supervising nurse on duty.

CNAs must participate in a training program and become certified in order to work as a CNA in New York City. The cost of a CNA program varies, but there are some certified training programs available at no cost.
