RN Nursing Programs in West Virginia

Deciding on a career in the medical field is a great choice. There are always jobs available in the medical fields and registered nurses are in high demand nationwide. Becoming an RN can be a long process and you have to make sure that you meet all the requirements.

To receive a Bachelor degree or Associate Degree in nursing will take between two to four years. You will be taking classes such as physical assessment, microbiology, anatomy, physiology and issues in healthcare. The first year of study will consist of classes like english, math, computers, public speaking and history. For the Bachelor in Science degree you will have additional coursework beyond what is required for an ADN program. The BSN program takes about four years to complete and gives you the option of entering into administrative and management positions. If you are already a registered nurse you might be able to find an RN to BSN program that will award you with credit hours for previous education, reducing the time it takes to complete your BSN degree. As an RN you will be responsible for the regular care of patients and you will also be involved in creating a plan of care for the patient.

After all the hours of school and clinical work are over you will have to be licensed by the state where you plan to work. In all fifty states there is a test that is required to receive the RN license known as the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The exam will take about six hours to complete and the results will be sent to the state board of nursing that issues the license.

Once you are a licensed RN you will have to complete twelve hours of continuing education credits every year to keep your license in good standing. These are classes that can be taken locally to help keep up with changing policies and practices. The West Virginia board of nursing does audits on the licensed nurses and can actually make you show proof of the continuing education credits from previous years. The board of nursing is in charge of overseeing RN licensees in the state of West Virginia.

Although it may take a few years to finish the nurse education requirements and to pass the RN exam, nursing can provide a rewarding career. Being a nurse you can really make a difference in people’s lives. Having you there could be a very comforting experience for patients and also for the patient’s family members, so remember to take your education and job seriously and strive for excellence in nursing.
