Becoming a Registered Nurse in Ohio

What Does it Take to Become a Nurse?
To be eligible to work as an RN in Ohio, you must graduate from an approved Ohio RN program and obtain a nursing license. There are different pathways you can take to become a registered nurse in Ohio. The three most common avenues are through a diploma or certificate, an associate’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree. If you plan on allowing for promotion in the nursing field, from a floor nurse to charge nurse to clinical coordinator, you will need to obtain a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree. Each of these programs require specific courses that deal with health assessment, good health promotion, and disease prevention, as well as courses that deal with nursing procedures like drawing blood, starting IVs, and inserting catheters; they also require a certain number of clinical experience hours. The exact courses and number of clinical hours required will vary from program to program. Once you have completed a qualified program you will have to take the National Council Licensure Examination, known as the NCLEX-RN. This exam must be passed in order to obtain your RN license in Ohio.
