Pediatric Nurse Job Description

A Registered Nurse (R.N.) or in some cases an LPN who specializes in caring for infants and children up to adolescent age is known as a Pediatric Nurse. This type of position is suitable for nurses that have a passion or special interest in caring for children. Working with children has its challenges and advantages over working with adults; they can be more difficult to diagnose due to their inability to articulate their symptoms. They can also be more rewarding to treat successfully. A large part of a pediatric nurse’s job duties include communication with the parents regarding treatment options, medications, potential side effects, etc. Since minors are unable to make their own medical decisions it is imperative that any nurse working in pediatrics be able to communicate effectively with parents. Average pediatric nurse salary starts around $70,000 per year and can increase annually with years of experience. Salary and wages will also vary according to the type of employer, geographic area and overall economic conditions. Small doctors offices that specialize in pediatrics can make excellent employment opportunities for nurses looking to work in this field. Pediatric healthcare providers should be kindhearted and understanding to deliver the best possible care to children.
