Hospice Nurse Job Description

Hospice care is the most sensitive time of need for a terminally ill patient. Nurses who want to provide end of life care are truly remarkable individuals. An RN, LPN or CNA working in hospice care will be responsible for assisting the patient with tasks they cannot complete by themselves, such as feeding, bathing, dressing wounds, monitoring vital signs and maintaining the patient’s medical records. A large part of a hospice nurse’s role includes communicating with the family members of the infirmed individual. Basic routine care will usually be performed by a Registered Nurse that specializes in hospice care. The average salary for a hospice nurse is about $70,000 per year (if the nurse is an RN). Salary ranges and hourly pay will usually be lower for LPNs and Nurse Aides working in hospice.
