How to Become a CNA in Texas

To become a CNA in Texas, there are certain qualifications and courses each applicant must complete prior to becoming certified. There are certain requirements which differ in each state, so if you are a CNA in another state, you will have to find out if the State of Texas accepts reciprocity, and if not, what additional requirements you must fulfill to become certified in the state of Texas. The job of a CNA entails providing care for patients under a nurses’ supervision. There are a variety of tasks which will be asked of a CNA by a registered nurse including: dressing, feeding, bathing and checking the vital signs of patients in hospitals or nursing homes. The CNA is pretty much in charge of assisting nurses in completing day to day tasks to keep patients comfortable, and make sure they are well taken care of.

Texas also requires an exam to be passed to obtain a nursing assistant certification. The test consists of a written section and a skills section. There is one section consisting of 60 multiple choice questions to evaluate what was learned during the classroom hours. The second portion is a practical exam where applicants are required to perform five techniques (which are randomly selected) to prove their ability to perform the necessary tasks required of a CNA. If a program is not approved by the state, the hours will not be counted towards the required hours to get a CNA License.
