How to Become a Registered Nurse in Oklahoma
In order to become a registered nurse in the state of Oklahoma, applicants must complete a qualified nursing education program and then pass a licensing exam. Registering for the licensing exam requires proof of US Citizenship and a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Degree (GED). Also, you need to furnish transcripts from the satisfactory completion a state-approved registered nursing program. The exam must be taken within 2 years of graduating or additional coursework may be required. Courses taken in an RN program must be both clinical and theoretical in nature and cover the following topics; Adult Health, Child Health, Maternal & Newborn Health, Mental and Psychiatric Health.[contentblock id=25]
The average RN salary in Oklahoma is $62,170 a year, or $30 per hour. All candidates for the Registered Nurse Licensing Exam must submit to a criminal background check. In addition to this background check, candidates are obligated to disclose to the state any arrests, participation in any criminal investigations, or any other type of involvement in criminal activity whether or not it lead to a conviction. The decision of the State Commission is final and exclusive when it comes to deciding whether or not to accept an application based on criminal history. Candidates who were convicted of a felony are not eligible to take the licensing exam until 5 years after their sentence or probation is completed, unless they have received a gubernatorial or presidential pardon.
One of the most common nursing degrees is the two year Applied Science Degree. This program includes classes in health and biology along with a number of general education or elective credits. The degree can be completed through a mixture of online and on-site classes, depending on the school, and in some cases in the evenings. This makes it more convenient for those that have day jobs for supporting themselves during this time.
After becoming a registered nurse, there are many opportunities. Some Registered Nurses work in hospitals in a wide variety of capacities such as emergency rooms, labor and delivery, or surgery rooms. Others choose to work in private doctor’s offices, assisting physicians with their daily tasks. The home health care field usually needs competent registered nurses for to provide in-home care for patients.
The Health Care Industry is one that will always be in high demand, and a fabulous industry to join if you like variety and helping others. Registered nurses work with the young and the old, and there is no doubt that everyday you will be making an impact on someone and therefore contributing a positive impact on the world.
