Certified Nursing Assistants are growing in demand each year. Alaska is no exception to this booming trend. There are many schools in Alaska that can help put you on track for an exciting career in the health care field.

Alaska offers vocational programs statewide that are designed exclusively for residents of Alaska that will prepare them for a promising career as a nursing assistant. CNA programs in Alaska include lab studies and time in the classroom in addition to hands-on clinical experience. After completing a program, the graduating student can sit for the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam.

Most courses designed to prepare students to receive their certification as a nursing assistant can be completed rather quickly. These classes range from periods as short as three weeks to around four to five months on the longer end of the spectrum. At trusted institutions, the course materials prepare students to face the requirements set forth by the state of Alaska. Lecture content and student instruction covers topics such as patient procedures and issues regarding patient privacy. Demonstration and role playing exercises thoroughly aid students when learning the safest and most appropriate ways to complete the daily tasks they will face in the field. Training is done under the supervision of healthcare professionals and the work is done with other nursing assistants that are already practicing.

Also available in Alaska are training programs made available through the American Red Cross. It has been proven that students completing this training do very well on the certification exam necessary to obtain a state license. The actual exam requires both a written portion and task demonstration. These tasks require excellent performance and range from three to five tasks.

Once a student has entered this field they are required to have their certification renewed annually in the state of Alaska. This requirement is to ensure that employees are aware of the changes and updates being adopted in the healthcare industry. Renewal is a simple process that can be done online in many cases. As a career, being a Certified Nursing Assistant can be very rewarding, offering the chance to work with people and help others lead a happy and productive life.
