Alabama Certified Nursing Assistant Careers

Becoming a certified nursing aide (also known as a CNA) in Alabama takes just a bit of time and commitment. These courses to become a CNA can often be obtained through vocational colleges, nursing facilities as well as various community colleges in Alabama.

To become a CNA in Alabama, one must meet the following legal and educational requirements: complete an Alabama state approved certification program, pass the state’s competency exam and pass a background check on criminal history. If you should already be certified as an active CNA from another state, in order to be placed on the Alabama CNA registry, one must first be employed by a long-term care facility or nursing home.

While different training programs have different requirements, there are certain minimums which must be met. These include: a total training time of 75 hours, classroom learning and hands-on clinical training. The clinical portion gives the students the chance to work with real patients while under the supervision of an educator. The classroom portion teaches the students various important nursing skills for a clinical setting. These include, but are not limited to: emergency care, infection control, patient’s rights and interpersonal skills.

The average length of a CNA course is around 12 weeks and can often be completed for less than $1,000 including the cost of supplies. If you are worried that a CNA doesn’t make that great of a wage, have no fear. The average salary for a CNA in Alabama is $31,000 per year. This is a great mid-range salary for an entry-level position in the health field. For this wage, the typical job duties that are expected of an Alabama CNA are: taking vital signs, assisting patients, answer call lights, assist patients with hygiene, feeding patients and much more.

Becoming a CNA in Alabama is a great way to get your foot in the door and gain experience needed to become a registered nurse or other health care professional. In addition to allowing you to work your way up the career ladder it is also a great way to help others. If you feel that you are called to help people in life becoming a CNA is a great way to fulfill that calling and know that you are truly doing work which helps to better the lives of others.
