Once basic nursing programs are finished, there are many possibilities for furthering your career and obtaining higher education.

While the programs are widely available, most nursing jobs are concentrated around major cities, such as Wichita, Overland Park, Kansas City, and Topeka. Many nursing schools have followed the national trend of offering course work online. Brown Mackie College in Kansas City and Salina offers online nursing degrees. Two Kansas based nursing schools offer distance education options; Fort Hays State University and the University of Kansas. In ordered to be licensed as a nurse in the state of Kansas, the applicant must have graduated from an approved school of professional nursing. This school can be in the United States, its territories, or an approved school of professional nursing in a foreign country. The applicant must also obtain any other qualifications that the board prescribes by rule and regulation, and file a written application with the board for a license. Finally, a written examination that has been prescribed by the state board must be taken within 24 months of graduation and passed. What’s Included in a Nursing Program?

Nursing programs will vary from school to school, but have many basic things in common. Each school will have required prerequisites that need to be completed before the nursing courses. Check with the school you are interested in to determine what these are. All nursing programs have a combination of class work and clinical work, which is done in a healthcare setting. The Kansas State Board of Nursing requires thirty credit hours of study along with clinical experience. Distance learning has become a popular option for many degrees. However, the statues and regulations for the state of Kansas require that an approved nursing program must provide clinical experience. All clinical practice and instruction must be provided by the faculty of the nursing program, and must allow the student to take an active part in nursing care and procedures. All student activities must be supervised by faculty during clinical experience.

Approved RN Schools in Kansas

See our complete list of qualified RN nursing education programs in the state of Kansas. The schools listed here offer pre-licensure nursing programs that meet the registered nursing education requirements set forth by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. The two most common types of RN programs are: two-year Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) and four-year Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN). Some states still approve hospital-based diploma nursing programs, although these programs do not result in a degree upon completion. Although the schools listed on this page are accredited by the Kansas Board of Nursing and approved by the state of Kansas, they might not be accredited by national organizations such as the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Individuals must check to verify that state-approved nursing schools also enjoy national accreditation if this is important to them.
