Texas RN Education Programs

University of Texas Health Science Center, located in Houston, is the best nursing school in the state of Texas according to a recent report by U.S. News & World Report. The school is ranked 34th in the nation. Appearing at number 36 in the country is University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. The average RN salary in Texas is $74,540 a year, or $36 an hour.

To be admitted to an RN education program at the University of Texas Health Science Center, students must submit an application and complete two years of the general education requirement. Those admitted must have a high grade point average in their course work up to that point, and a significant emphasis is placed on the student’s grade point average in science classes. Students must come for a personal interview, during which time the student must complete a writing sample. If the student did not attend school in the United States, the student may also have to take the TOEFL test.

The most common RN education program is the standard BSN degree track. Students enrolled in this program will complete their education in approximately four years. During the first semester, students will take courses in how to perform a health assessment, study adult health care, study the effects diseases have on the body and learn about different medicines. The students will also participate in an adult health care clinical course.

During the second semester, RN students will take courses in health care for the elderly and children. They will also take courses in psychiatric health care. They will participate in both a mental health clinical and a senior health care clinical. Students will also take a course on how to conduct research and how to utilize the findings of that research.

During the third semester, students will learn about reproductive health care. They will also take courses on child health care. Furthermore, they will participate in a child health care clinical and a reproductive health care clinical. Students will also take a course in what their professional license means and how to protect it.

During the last semester, students will learn about public health care. They will also perform clinical work in public health care. After successful completion of the nursing education program the student must pass the national nursing exam. This test, given twice a year, covers the understanding of the RN student in many different areas. It ensures that the student is ready to become a registered nurse.

Besides the two RN programs offered by the University of Texas Health Science Center, Texas offers several other training programs. They include the University of Texas program at Austin, which is considered the second best RN training program in the state. Another choice is the Texas Women’s University in Denton, which offers both a regular training program and a weekend training program for those who are looking to change careers.

Accredited Texas RN Schools

See our complete list of qualified RN nursing education programs in the state of Texas. The schools listed here offer pre-licensure nursing programs that meet the registered nursing education requirements set forth by the Texas State Board of Nursing. Although the schools listed on this page are accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing and approved by the state of Texas, they might not be accredited by national organizations such as the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). Individuals should check to see if the state-approved nursing school they are considering also enjoys national accreditation status if they are seeking a school with both accreditations.
