How Much Can You Make as a CNA in Wyoming?

The average salary for a CNA in Wyoming is $27,750 per year. Wyoming, with the help of recent grants, is working hard to avoid becoming one of the states with the greatest shortage of nurses by the year 2020. Those wishing to become nursing assistants may be able to find financial assistance through their local state employment office or from healthcare facilities that may offer tuition assistance in return for a promise of a period of employment. Wyoming hopes to double its current number of nurses at every level in the next five to seven years. Now is the time for interested individuals to pursue a career as a certified nursing assistant in the state of Wyoming.

How to Become a CNA in Wyoming

To begin the licensing process, individuals are required to complete CNA training classes as part of an approved CNA training program. Such programs operate under the jurisdiction of the Wyoming Department of Health. Before signing up for the classes, candidates will need to pass a medical exam and pass a criminal background check. The course will include no less than 75 hours of training, of which at least 16 hours must be in a clinical format. Students will have to show that they can interact in an effective manner with other health care professionals as well as patients. Learning to take vital signs, providing necessary personal care, learning medical terminology and record keeping are among the skills taught within the program.

Can I Transfer My CNA License to Wyoming?

If you are a certified nursing assistant from another state and have just moved to Wyoming you can apply to the Nursing Aide Registry in Wyoming for what is called “reciprocity”. As long as you can provide verification that you completed a state approved CNA certification program, are currently certified in another state, and have worked as a CNA recently. You would not need to take the Wyoming exam or training if you are granted reciprocity. CNA licenses usually need to be renewed every two years.

How Much Does CNA Training Cost? How Long Does it Take?

Once training is successfully completed, a $98 fee is required in order to take the Wyoming CNA Certification Examination. The exam will be comprised of two parts: written multiple choice and practical skills demonstration. The written portion contains 70 questions and tests the knowledge expected of a certified nursing assistant. In the practical part of the exam the student is asked to demonstrate five (out of 25 possible) clinical nursing assistant skills on an actual patient.

There is a current shortage of nursing assistants in Wyoming, which creates a favorable situation for those who would like to get their foot in the door with an entry-level health care position. Prospective nurse aides in Wyoming must first obtain CNA certification and get listed on the State Nursing Assistant Registry.
